Two female students of the Joseph Sarwuan University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State were kidnapped by gunmen in the late hours of Saturday.
The spokesperson for the state command, Superintendent Catherine Anene said: “The report we heard was that the incident happened along North Bank/Uniagric Road, Saturday night at about 11 pm.
Anene further explained that the suspected kidnappers blocked the road, attacked and took the victims before the security operatives could arrive at the incident.
She said that the family and the school authority had notified the command and investigation into the matter was ongoing.
Earlier, some policemen in the state reportedly killed three suspected kidnappers and rescued two victims in the state.
The suspected kidnappers were reported to have abducted two people in the Ukum Local Government Area and demanded N23 million ransom. The victims were reportedly abducted in their homes about a week ago.
Anene stated that a team of Operation Zenda deployed to the area burst into the hideout of the suspected kidnappers in the early hours of Wednesday.
