Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have announced the surrender of two senior terrorist commanders during ongoing counter-insurgency operations in Borno State.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Media Information Officer at the Headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri.
According to the military, the two suspects surrendered to troops of Sector 2 in Geidam on 4 July 2026. They were identified as “Munzirs” within the terrorist group’s leadership structure.
The statement said the suspects arrived in Maiduguri at about 7:30 p.m. on 5 July and are currently in military custody, where they are undergoing profiling, debriefing and intelligence exploitation.
Preliminary interrogation, according to the military, indicates that the surrendered commanders occupied influential positions within the terrorist organisation and possess extensive knowledge of its operational activities, command structure and logistics network.
The military added that intelligence gathered during the initial debriefing has already provided valuable information on the group’s operational methods, support networks and supply mechanisms.
It said the information is expected to strengthen ongoing intelligence-led operations aimed at locating and dismantling remaining terrorist enclaves across the North-East.
Operation HADIN KAI described the surrender as another significant setback for the insurgent group, attributing the development to sustained military pressure through coordinated land and air operations, backed by enhanced intelligence efforts.
The military stated that the continued offensive has restricted the movement of terrorist fighters, weakened their combat capability and disrupted their command and control structures.
It added that increasing numbers of terrorist leaders and fighters are abandoning the insurgency and surrendering as continued resistance becomes more difficult.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining military operations until all terrorist elements are either neutralised or compelled to surrender, while pledging to continue working with relevant stakeholders to restore lasting peace, security and stability across the North-East.
