The South East Nigeria Democratic League (SENDL) has commended the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi for throwing his hat into the ring for the 2023 presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group described the decision as a ‘good omen’ for the APC and a vindication of its calls on the Minister to join the presidential race.

SENDL was in the forefront of the agitation for Amaechi to indicate his interest to serve his country.

Coordinator of the group, Prince Jude Emeka Okoye told the media in Awka, Anambra State on Monday that Amaechi remained the ‘most competent aspirant with a pan-Nigerian acceptance and support base to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari’.

According to Okoye, for a man who has been on the political arena for over two decades with knowledge of serving at local, state and national levels, Ameachi would make ‘the ideal President, especially now that the country is buffeted by multifarous challenges’.

Okoye further said: ‘Nigeria requires a man with the experience and courage to confront insecurity, challenges of greater accountability in governance, youth unemployment and the scourge of spiral poverty. Amaechi is the man’.

Okoye said that, as a grassroots group,  SENDL is elated at the latest development which it said ‘ultimately makes Amaechi the man to beat’.

He then called on the APC faithful to rally round the Minister so as to ensure the party has a formidable candidate in 2023.

Okoye  disclosed that the group was already mobilising support for Amaechi beyond the southeast and its Diaspora wing, to all parts of the country.

With the formal declaration of his presidential ambition by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo early on Monday, aspirants within the APC who have made their intention known include APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Dave Umahi, his Kogi State counterpart Yaya Bello, and former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha.
