The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards will begin nationwide on October 9, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general election.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Monday in Kaduna during the commission’s North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting with Staff and Readiness Assessment for the 2027 General Election.
Amupitan said the recent voter registration exercise conducted by the commission produced more than 10.7 million new registrations.
He called for the removal of bottlenecks affecting the distribution of PVCs at the local government level to prevent eligible voters from being disenfranchised.
The INEC chairman also disclosed that the commission was refining its technological systems to improve voter verification and the transmission and management of election results.
He said the reforms included the Result Management Systems and the recently introduced eEC8A platform.
Amupitan further said the commission was implementing a “Zero-Failure” approach to election logistics.
According to him, the approach covers the early deployment of election materials, transportation and movement of personnel and materials, security coordination, as well as the training of ad hoc election personnel.
He said the measures were part of INEC’s preparations to ensure effective conduct of the 2027 general election.
