A total of 2,518 Nigerians have been evacuated from Sudan and returned home, according to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
On Sunday, NiDCOM’s Head of Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, issued an update on the exercise.
The evacuation was done through 15 flights, with four from Aswan, Egypt, and 11 from Port Sudan.
The latest figure is an increase from the 2,371 citizens that were flown back home on Saturday, 13th May.
“The new arrivals just now are 140 adults, comprising three infants and 30 children, bringing the total evacuation to 2,518,” Balogun said.
The conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces started in April and has forced over 100,000 people to flee the capital, Khartoum, and other cities to neighbouring countries.
