The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Kosisochukwu Edward Ibekwe, in connection with the alleged murder of 23-year-old nursing student, Miss Vivian Chilaka, in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest on Saturday, saying the suspect was apprehended on Friday following credible information received by the police.
Ikenga said preliminary investigations indicated that Ibekwe allegedly gained access to the building by climbing over the fence with the aid of a ladder, reportedly with the intention of sexually assaulting the victim.
According to the suspect’s statement to the police, a struggle ensued between him and Chilaka, during which he allegedly used a knife to stab her, resulting in her death.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that the suspect had made additional claims allegedly linking him to other similar incidents in the community.
Ikenga, however, stressed that the claims remained subject to investigation and would require further corroboration by the command.
He also clarified that the landlord, who had initially been suspected of involvement in the incident, had been exonerated following the ongoing investigation.
The police assured members of the public that the investigation would continue and that further developments would be communicated as they emerge.
