With 371 out of 731 delegate votes, former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next year’s general elections.

Atiku defeated his closest rival and Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike who garnered 237 votes.

Atiku’s victory was boosted by the decision of Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, who not only stepped down before the voting but also urged his supported to cast their ballots for the former Adamawa State Governor.

Atiku was the PDP presidential candidate in the 2019 elections and that of the now defunct Actiom Congress of Nigeria in 2003.

No fewer than 767 delegates decided the fate of the presidential aspirants.

Former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki got 70 votes, while Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel polled 38 votes.

Others include former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim 14 votes and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed 20 votes.
