A Niger State High Court sitting in Minna has sentenced a 27-year-old man, Hussaini Suleiman, to seven years in prison for raping an eight-year-old girl.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) disclosed this in a statement shared on its official Facebook page on Friday.
The case was presided over by Justice Binta Bawa, who convicted Suleiman after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
According to NAPTIP, the incident occurred at the convict’s residence behind the Prison Quarters in Minna, Niger State.
The agency said the case was referred to its Niger State Command by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on 16 April 2026 following a report of the alleged rape of the minor.
NAPTIP said Suleiman admitted to committing the offence and was subsequently arraigned before Court 8 of the Niger State High Court, Minna, on 10 September 2026.
“The convict pleaded guilty and was sentenced to seven years imprisonment,” the statement said.
In a related development, the NSCDC in July paraded a 40-year-old man, Aminu Bello, in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, over the alleged rape of his 13-year-old daughter in the Badariya area.
Similarly, in August, the NSCDC arrested two suspects in Mubi North, Adamawa State, following the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl.
