Kenneth Omeruo is thrilled to have capped his 60th appearance for the Super Eagles with a win, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Omeruo led the Super Eagles to their third win under coach Jose Peseiro in the game against Guinea-Bissau in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Bissau and feels elated to have accomplished that feat 10 years after he made his debut for the three-time African champions.
“Privileged to have played my 60th cap for the Super Eagles. All glory to God for the victory.
“I never thought I would even get one cap for Nigeria, let alone 100,” Omeruo said.
“It has been a long road – a load of ups and downs – but it has been worth every single second. I never thought I would get here, so I am really happy.
“When you are in the pressure pot, the mixer, you don’t really have much time to think about records, you are on to the next job or the next fixture. They come thick and fast.
“I am sure there will be a time when I will reflect on that.
Looking back on his first appearance for the Eagles, Omeruo added, “It was probably one of my fondest memories ever in a Nigerian jersey after graduating from the U-17 through to the senior team.
“I was fortunate enough to play with some of my heroes that I grew up watching in the game that were still in the team at that time.”
