Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the employment of 500 teachers for schools.
This was made known yesterday by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Emmanuel Iyamu, according to a statement by Okpebholo’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua.
Iyamu said the recruitment would be done in batches.
He noted government’s commitment to ensuring public schools had qualified teachers.
Iyamu said the era of having two or three teachers in a public school was over, advising qualified teachers to apply.
He said the recruitment would be based on merit.
The planned recruitment of teachers is happening a week after 360 cleaners were recruited into the civil and public service, as against contract workers that were used by the Godwin Obaseki administration.
