The Sokoto State Government has adjusted official working hours for civil servants in the state in observance of the holy month of Ramadan.

According to a 3 March 2025 circular by the Head of Civil Service, Sulaiman S/Fulani Ahmadu, all civil servants, including those in the Unified Local Government Service and the Local Government Education Authority, will close one and a half hours earlier than usual throughout the fasting period.

‘Under the new schedule, government offices will close at 2:30 pm from Monday to Thursday and at 12:00 noon on Fridays,’ the circular stated.

The adjustment, approved by Governor Ahmed Aliyu, aims to provide Muslim civil servants with more time for prayers, religious activities, and preparation for breaking their fast.

‘This gesture is to enable civil servants to devote more time to the Almighty Allah during the period of Ramadan,’ the statement added.

The move has been widely welcomed by civil servants, who described it as a thoughtful initiative that will help them balance work commitments with their religious obligations.
