The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) said the recent actions of Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, at an airport could be considered as an act of terrorism in several countries.

Speaking on Arise TV on Sunday, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mike Achimugu, condemned the singer’s alleged disruption of a ValueJet flight’s departure.

‘In many parts of the world, what he did is considered terrorism. You cannot stop an aircraft from taking off-there is no justification for it’, Achimugu said.

Achimugu said the NCAA would investigate how the singer gained access to the restricted area where the incident occurred, adding that all those found culpable would face sanctions.

‘Did the air traffic control clear the pilot to depart despite safety concerns? These are some of the questions the investigation will address’, he added.

On 7 August, the NCAA petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to probe the incident, which took place during scheduled ValueJet flight VK201. The authority alleged that Ayinde’s conduct violated Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations.

The Fuji star, who has since apologised for his conduct, has been placed on a no-fly list pending the outcome of the investigation.
