The Kaduna State caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives on Tuesday lost three members to the ruling party, as they defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors — Hons. Abdulkarim Ahmed (Kaduna South), Aliyu Mustapha (Ikara/Kubau), and Sadiq Ango-Abdullahi (Sabon Gari) — announced their defections in three separate letters read by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, during Tuesday’s plenary.

In recent months, Kaduna State has witnessed an influx of politicians to the APC from rival parties, including the return of Senator Shehu Sani and Hon. Amos Magaji.

The three members cited what they described as ‘the lingering crisis in the PDP’ and the need to align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu as reasons for switching their political platforms.

In a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Makera Ward in Kaduna South Local Government Area, Ahmed expressed his decision to resign from the party.

He wrote: ‘The constant internal conflicts and factionalism within the PDP, which have culminated in a prolonged party crisis, are undesirably impacting my ability to effectively represent my constituency and fulfill my obligations optimally.

‘In view of this enduring situation, and after wide consultations with my constituents, key stakeholders, and political allies, I have come to the tough but necessary decision to resign my membership of the PDP.

‘This decision is driven by my commitment to continue serving the good people of Kaduna South Federal Constituency, beyond partisan lines, ensuring that all my constituents benefit from purposeful, inclusive, and effective representation.

‘I sincerely thank the PDP for the privilege and opportunity to serve under its platform.

‘The support, trust, and experiences I have gained during my time with the party were priceless, and I am very grateful to the leadership and members at all levels.

‘While thanking you for your support, please accept the assurances of my highest regards’.
