Unilorin alumni to mark institution’s 50th anniversary with symposium

‎ The Alumni Association of the University of Ilorin has announced a series of events to commemorate the university’s 50th anniversary, which will climax with a grand symposium.

According to the organisers, the symposium, scheduled for Saturday, 8 November 2025 at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. will represent a pinnacle of a year-long celebration honoring the university’s remarkable journey since its founding in 1975.

‎The event will gather distinguished alumni, academics, industry leaders, and stakeholders to reflect on the institution’s achievements, contributions to national development, and future prospects in education and innovation.

‎It will be chaired by a distinguished alumnus, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, who is the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation.

Special guests include the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Wahab Egbewole; and President of the Alumni Association, Prof. AbdurRazaq Kilani, who was a Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt.

The symposium underscores the association’s commitment to fostering lifelong connections and supporting the university’s ongoing mission.

The Vice President of the association and Lagos State anchor, ‎Engr. Isiwat Lawal said: ‘This grand symposium is more than an event; it’s a testament to the enduring spirit of Unilorin. As we mark 50 years of academic excellence, we invite all alumni and well-wishers to join us in celebrating our shared heritage and charting a bold path forward. Together, we continue to build on the foundations laid by our alma mater’.
