Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Friday assented to the bill establishing Gaya Polytechnic, a development aimed at expanding access to quality tertiary education and boosting technical skills acquisition across the state.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the signing ceremony took place at the Government House, Kano, in the presence of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, and the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butubutu, who jointly presented the bill.

Governor Yusuf said the new institution would create opportunities for youths to acquire practical skills and technical knowledge critical for economic growth.

‘This is a significant step in our administration’s commitment to reviving and strengthening education at all levels.

‘Gaya Polytechnic will empower our young people, enhance human capital development, and contribute to economic prosperity across the state’, Yusuf said.

He commended the House of Assembly for its smooth legislative process and dedication to improving the state’s educational infrastructure.

It was reported that the bill follows a satisfactory report by a 14-member committee tasked with spearheading the establishment of the polytechnic.

Dawakin Tofa added that the establishment of Gaya Polytechnic aligns with the administration’s broader agenda of providing accessible and affordable education while boosting local economies across Kano’s senatorial zones.

He noted that once fully operational, the institution would contribute significantly to job creation, innovation, and socio-economic development in Gaya and surrounding communities.
