President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, as the fourth Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano.
The President, who was represented by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, performed the installation on Saturday at the 36th and 37th combined convocation of the university, where 16,581 students bagged various degrees.
“There is no doubt that Bayero University is indeed lucky to have the Oba as its chancellor. He is a man of great experience and a seasoned diplomat”, President Buhari said. “I officially congratulate His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, on your well-deserved appointment as the Chancellor of Bayero University”.
While congratulating the monarch on the twin honor as the Chancellor and award of Doctor of Law degree (Honoris Causa) by the university, the President said he had no doubt that the monarch was worthy of the recognition.
