Possible outcomes in Nigeria’s complaint against DR Congo

A football club official has provided possible outcomes of the complaint which the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) submitted to FIFA against its Democratic Republic of Congo’s counterpart.

The central African country eliminated the Super Eagles following 4-3 penalty shootouts after both sides had ended their final continental playoff 1-1 in Rabat, Morocco on 16 November.

Nigeria is contesting the eligibility of more than five players that represented DR Congo during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

A Director with Nigeria’s topflight club, Ikorodu City, Olawale Quadri, shared his perspectives on X on Friday evening.

He wrote: ‘Possible outcome on DR Congo case vs Nigeria:

1. Should FIFA find the NFF’s evidence not sufficient enough. DR Congo’s World Cup qualification stays intact.

2. After investigation and FIFA finds DR Congo culpable. The following would happened.

– FIFA may order a DR Congo forfeiture or award the match to Nigeria.

– Deduct points in group stage contests.

‘Note: Sanctions like these are applied when administrative or player-registration rules are breached.

‘Not looking good for DR Congo at all’.
