Three suspects have been remanded in custody after being arraigned for allegedly stealing and selling 300 insecticide-treated mosquito nets intended for free distribution to residents in Osun State.
The Osun State Police Command identified the suspects as Rabbi Bennett, Opeyemi Ajibola and Aminu Ibrahim in a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi.
According to the police, the suspects were charged before a court and subsequently remanded in a correctional centre pending further judicial proceedings.
Ojelabi said the police received information on 9 June 2026 about the alleged illegal sale of government-owned mosquito nets earmarked for distribution under a public health intervention programme.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Bennett, who is from Delta State and was identified by the police as a staff member of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) attached to Ife North Local Government Area in Ipetumodu, allegedly became involved in a dispute with Opeyemi Ajibola, a commercial motorcycle rider, over proceeds from the purported sale of the mosquito nets.
Further investigations, the police said, revealed that Bennett, Ajibola and Ibrahim allegedly sold six bundles containing 300 insecticide-treated mosquito nets on 8 June.
The mosquito nets were intended to be distributed free of charge to members of the public under a government health programme.
The police said all three suspects were arrested and questioned, during which they allegedly confessed to their involvement in the offence.
“The case has since been charged to court, and all suspects have been remanded at the Correctional Centre pending further judicial proceedings,” Ojelabi said.
The command reiterated its commitment to protecting public resources and said it would ensure that anyone entrusted with implementing public welfare programmes is held accountable in accordance with the law.
