The Senate has approved an ₦11 trillion revenue target for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for the 2026 fiscal year.
The approval followed the agency’s budget defence before the Senate Committee on Customs on Monday.
Chairman of the committee, Senator Isah Jibril, announced the approval during the session attended by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and other senior officials of the Service.
Speaking during the budget defence, Adeniyi expressed confidence that the NCS would achieve the target despite prevailing global economic uncertainties.
He disclosed that the Service had generated ₦4.43 trillion in revenue so far, although the figure fell short of projected expectations for the period.
According to the Comptroller-General, the conflict in the Middle East has significantly disrupted cargo movements and reduced import volumes through Nigerian ports.
“The Middle East crisis has affected cargo coming into our ports. We are hopeful that the delicate situation involving the United States and Iran will improve, but for now, we have to contend with these external factors,” he said.
Reviewing the Service’s 2025 budget performance, Adeniyi said the NCS met its approved revenue target of ₦6.584 trillion.
He added that global events, including the Russia-Ukraine war, had also affected the Service’s revenue performance by disrupting international trade and supply chains.
