Nigeria’s Super Falcons will begin the final phase of their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) when they open a week-long training camp in Mohammedia, Morocco, on 15 July.
The tournament will be held from 25 July to 16 August, with the 10-time African champions aiming to retain their continental title and secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Head coach Justine Madugu is expected to announce his final 24-player squad before the team departs for Morocco. The squad last assembled in June for a two-match international friendly against Senegal.
The training camp in Mohammedia will provide the coaching staff with a final opportunity to fine-tune tactics, build team cohesion and complete the players’ physical preparations before the team moves to Rabat for the tournament.
Nigeria, drawn in Group C, will open their campaign against Malawi on 28 July at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat.
The Super Falcons will then face Zambia on 1 August at the same venue before concluding the group stage against Egypt on 5 August at the Olympic Stadium.
Meanwhile, Malawi have strengthened their technical crew ahead of their first appearance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Football Association of Malawi has appointed South African coach Sudesh Singh as the team’s Technical Adviser, less than a month before the Scorchers’ opening match against Nigeria.
According to the association, the appointment was made to comply with Confederation of African Football (CAF) coaching regulations, which require head coaches at the tournament to hold a CAF A Coaching Licence.
Malawi’s head coach, Lovemore Fazili, does not possess the required qualification. Singh will therefore occupy the lead coaching position on the bench during matches, while Fazili will retain responsibility for team selection, tactics and overall management of the squad.
The Football Association of Malawi has also appointed Tyrese Steyn as Performance Analyst. He will be responsible for match analysis, opposition scouting and performance data throughout the tournament.
