The husband of Mrs Rachael Alamu, the principal of Ahoro Esinle School in Oyo State who was recently rescued from kidnappers, joined family members and worshippers in a thanksgiving service to celebrate her safe return.
A video shared on Sunday by Oyo Matters showed Professor Alamu dancing with members of his church congregation during the thanksgiving service held in Ogbomoso. Worshippers sang songs of praise, including “Hallelujah,” in gratitude for the release of Mrs Alamu and the other abducted victims after spending weeks in captivity.
Mrs Alamu was among the pupils and teachers abducted by gunmen from Ahoro Esinle School in Oriire Local Government Area on 15 May 2026. The victims spent more than 50 days in captivity before regaining their freedom.
The Federal Government announced their rescue on Friday. The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said security agencies successfully secured the release of all the captives.
On Saturday, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde visited the rescued pupils and teachers at the Military Hospital in Ibadan, where they are receiving medical treatment and psychosocial support.
The victims are expected to be formally handed over to the Oyo State Government on Monday before reuniting with their families.
The thanksgiving service in Ogbomoso was one of the family’s first public appearances following Mrs Alamu’s release and reflected the relief and gratitude expressed by relatives after the ordeal.
The video of the celebration has attracted widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing joy over the safe return of the victims.
