The Osun State Police Command has released the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Teslim Igbalaye, following his arrest over alleged vote-buying-related offences.
Igbalaye was arrested alongside five other suspects after police reportedly recovered Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), cash and a voters’ register during a search of his residence.
The police also identified the other suspects as Abiodun Arowomole, popularly known as “Ashipa,” who was described as a wanted murder suspect on the command’s watch list, as well as Taiwo Akande, Lukman Adeyemo, Muftau Olaoye and Musiliu Aderemi.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the SSG was released on Thursday while investigations into the matter continue.
“I can only tell you that the SSG, Mr Teslim Igbalaye, has been released this afternoon, and the investigation is still ongoing,” Ojelabi said.
The police have not disclosed the conditions of Igbalaye’s release or whether any formal charges will be filed as the investigation progresses.
The arrest came amid allegations of vote-buying and the recovery of election-related materials from the SSG’s residence, prompting the police to launch a wider investigation into the incident.
