Digital creator Amadou Elizabeth Aminata, popularly known as Jarvis, has dismissed claims that she shaved her head as part of a traditional marital rite ahead of her white wedding to fellow TikTok star Habeeb Hamzat, better known as Peller.
Jarvis explained that the haircut was strictly for hairstyling purposes, saying her hairstylist recommended it to ensure that her wig and hair extensions would be properly installed for her bridal looks.
The clarification followed speculation on social media that the haircut was connected to a cultural or traditional requirement ahead of her marriage.
Addressing the claims in a trending video shared on social media on Monday, Jarvis said she shaved her hair because she wanted her bridal hairstyle to have a perfect finish.
“I shaved my hair because I wanted my hair installation to be perfect,” she said.
According to the content creator, her natural hairline had previously made it difficult to achieve the desired result when installing frontal wigs.
She added that her hairstylist advised her to shave the hair because of the texture of her natural hair.
“That is what my hairstylist recommended because I have stubborn hair,” Jarvis said.
She urged the public to stop attributing unverified cultural practices to her wedding, stressing that the decision to shave her hair had nothing to do with any traditional marital requirement.
The clarification comes as Jarvis and Peller conclude their highly publicised wedding celebrations with their white wedding.
The couple held their white wedding on Saturday, with the ceremony streamed live on Twitch and YouTube for fans who could not attend physically.
They had earlier announced a significantly reduced guest list for the white wedding, with Peller saying only between 80 and 100 guests would be admitted.
The decision followed complaints over the large turnout at their traditional wedding on 1 August, where Peller alleged that some attendees obtained the couple’s aso-ebi mainly to gain access to the ceremony and create social media content.
He also announced that bloggers would not be allowed into the white wedding, describing it as a more private celebration involving close family members, friends and selected industry colleagues.
Despite the disruptions surrounding the traditional ceremony, Peller said the event was ultimately successful.
The couple’s journey to marriage has attracted considerable attention from their large social media following.
Peller proposed to Jarvis in Ghana in June, after which the couple travelled to Benin City, Edo State, where he paid her bride price and completed the traditional marriage rites with her family.
They subsequently conducted their court wedding in Lagos on 29 July before holding their traditional wedding in Lekki, Lagos, on 1 August.
The traditional ceremony attracted several celebrities, musicians and social media influencers and became one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings of the year.
The couple also received several high-value gifts from well-wishers, including a reported N400 million mansion in Abuja, cash gifts and a plot of land.
The ceremony also generated several viral moments, including socialite Pretty Mike’s mock medical-team entrance and a video showing a tout being knocked down by a car near the venue.
However, the wedding was not without controversy, with some Nigerians questioning the couple’s age and readiness for marriage. Peller and Jarvis dismissed the concerns and proceeded with their wedding plans.
Their decision to hold a smaller white wedding followed Peller’s complaints about the crowd and content creators at the traditional ceremony, while fans unable to attend were given the opportunity to watch the celebration online.
