Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has sparked reactions on social media after liking a video in which controversial critic VeryDarkMan (VDM) criticised him and his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, over the governor’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The development follows Adeleke’s appearance at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, where he pledged support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition and was named the campaign coordinator in Osun State.

In the video, VDM accused the Adeleke family of political hypocrisy, referring to Davido’s previous social media posts criticising the APC.

The social media critic questioned the singer’s earlier political stance, alleging that his previous opposition to the ruling party had been motivated by electoral interests rather than firmly held convictions.

VDM also accused Davido of using his popularity and influence to advance political interests, claiming that the singer paid insufficient attention to the welfare of Osun residents outside election periods.

“You are a user. You are someone who uses your fans and your popularity to your advantage… I don’t want to see you put your mouth in election matters again,” he said.

Rather than ignore the criticism, Davido reportedly liked the video, a move that drew attention online and prompted speculation about his reaction to the comments.

The singer, however, has yet to issue a direct statement explaining why he liked the video or responding to VDM’s allegations.

Adeleke’s support for Tinubu has attracted attention partly because the governor belongs to the Accord Party, while his appointment to lead the President’s campaign in Osun places him within the APC’s re-election campaign structure.

The controversy has renewed discussions about political allegiances, celebrity influence in Nigerian elections and the role entertainers play in shaping public opinion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
