The Kebbi State Government has pledged to support the families of 10 police officers and other personnel killed by terrorists in the state.
Governor Nasir Idris made the commitment on Tuesday when he received a delegation from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
The delegation was led by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Umar Shehu-Nadada.
The 10 police officers were killed in an ambush along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area while supporting other security agencies in efforts to combat terrorism.
Idris expressed condolences to the Nigeria Police Force and the families of the fallen officers, describing their deaths as a sacrifice made in the line of duty.
He said the state had a tradition of supporting families of security personnel who died while serving the country and assured the bereaved families of government assistance.
“I want to condole the IGP and the NPF over the sudden death of these officers. It is our tradition in Kebbi to assist the families of fallen officers who died in the line of duty.
“The Kebbi Government will come to the aid of the families of these officers who paid the supreme price,” the governor said.
Earlier, Shehu-Nadada conveyed the IGP’s condolences to the governor, the people of Kebbi State and the families of the slain officers.
He assured the state government that the police would intensify efforts to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.
“Please rest assured that we are not going to relent in our efforts. All the attackers will be arrested and brought to book,” he said.
The IGP also commended the Kebbi State Government for its continued support for the police and other security efforts in the state.
He disclosed that a new police squadron would soon be established in Kebbi as part of efforts to strengthen security operations in the state.
