Malawi and Cameroon have booked their places in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final after contrasting semi-final victories on Wednesday.
Malawi secured a 3-1 victory over Algeria, with Tabitha Chawinga scoring twice before her sister, Temwa Chawinga, added a third to send the Malawians through.
Cameroon, meanwhile, overcame hosts Morocco 3-1 on penalties after the two sides played out a goalless draw in regulation time.
Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Bihina emerged as the hero of the shootout, saving four Morocco penalties before Myriam Maéva Nyadjou converted the decisive spot-kick.
The results mean Malawi and Cameroon will contest the WAFCON final on Sunday.
Four teams qualify for World Cup
All four semi-finalists — Malawi, Cameroon, Morocco and Algeria — have also secured qualification for next summer’s Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The tournament will mark a first World Cup appearance for both Malawi and Algeria.
Morocco will make its second appearance at the global tournament after reaching the last 16 in 2023.
Cameroon, meanwhile, will return to the Women’s World Cup having previously featured at the 2015 and 2019 editions.
Attention now turns to Sunday’s final, with Malawi seeking to cap an impressive campaign with their first WAFCON title, while Cameroon will aim to claim the continental crown.
