President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, effective 27 August 2026.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
Enitan succeeds Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.
According to the statement, Enitan, an indigene of Osun State, is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. He has spent seven years and seven months as a Permanent Secretary, serving at the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President.
He is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education.
Tinubu commended Walson-Jack for her service to the country, particularly the reforms, innovations and other improvements recorded in the Civil Service during her tenure.
The President also wished her success and fulfilment in retirement, while expressing appreciation for her years of dedicated public service.
Tinubu tasked Enitan with building on the reforms and innovations already introduced in the Civil Service, while strengthening professionalism and efficiency across the system.
He urged the incoming Head of Service to promote a Civil Service that is professional, merit-based, accountable, innovative and responsive to the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.
The President said the reforms should contribute to the development of a more effective and responsive Civil Service capable of advancing his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
