Petrol prices have increased at several filling stations across Abuja following a rise in the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit, commonly known as petrol, by Dangote Refinery.
A market survey on Saturday showed that MRS filling stations along the Kubwa Expressway, Lugbe Expressway and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory had raised their pump price to N1,230 per litre from N1,210.
Other major retailers, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Rainoil, Empire Energy and the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company, were selling petrol at prices ranging from N1,250 to N1,299 per litre.
The latest adjustments represent an increase of N20 per litre at MRS outlets.
A manager at an MRS filling station, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the directive to increase the price came from the company’s headquarters in Lagos.
“We got the directive to raise our price by N20 to N1,230 per litre on Friday, but no reason was given,” the manager said.
The latest development followed Dangote Refinery’s decision on Friday to increase its petrol gantry price to N1,185 per litre from N1,165.
With the latest adjustments, motorists in Abuja and surrounding areas are now paying between N1,230 and N1,299 per litre for petrol.
The increase comes amid a rise in international crude oil prices, with Brent crude trading above $94 per barrel.
The latest price movement also reverses part of the reductions recorded in recent weeks, when filling stations across Nigeria lowered petrol prices by at least N90 per litre following an earlier reduction in Dangote Refinery’s gantry price.
