Nollywood actress Atinuke Remilekun Kareem, popularly known as Atinuke Kareem, has died after a prolonged battle with breast cancer.
Her death was announced on Tuesday by Owolabi Ajasa, the Ogun State governor of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), in a statement shared on Instagram.
Ajasa expressed appreciation to Nigerians who supported the actress and her family during her treatment through financial assistance, prayers and encouragement.
He said, “We sincerely appreciate everyone who contributed financially, offered prayers, encouragement, and support towards the treatment of our dear colleague, Atinuke Remilekun Kareem.
“Sadly, despite all our efforts and prayers, Atinuke has passed on and answered the final call.”
Ajasa said the association accepted the development as the will of God and prayed for strength for Kareem’s family, colleagues and loved ones.
“We cannot question the Almighty God. We can only submit to His will and pray that He grants her eternal rest and gives her family, colleagues, and loved ones the strength to bear this painful loss,” he added.
Kareem’s death comes days after the death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who died aged 66 following a prolonged battle with stage-four cancer.
Hassan died on Sunday, 23 August 2026, and was buried the following day according to Islamic rites in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State.
The deaths of the two actors have deepened the sense of loss within Nigeria’s film industry, with colleagues and fans paying tribute to the deceased and mourning their passing.
