Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured residents and visitors of strengthened security as the state prepares to host President Bola Tinubu and receive an influx of visitors during the end-of-year period.
Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Tuesday during a security council meeting with heads of security agencies at the State House, Marina, Lagos.
The meeting was disclosed in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, titled, “Sanwo-Olu Holds Security Council Meeting.”
According to Omotoso, the governor received briefings on security activities and plans to strengthen measures ahead of the end-of-year celebrations.
Sanwo-Olu said the state government would continue to take proactive steps to prevent criminal activities and protect residents and visitors.
“We will not relent on our efforts to ensure that criminals don’t find a place for their evil activities in our state,” the governor said.
Omotoso said the meeting was held as Lagos prepares for increased activities, including President Tinubu’s visit and the expected influx of visitors during the Yuletide.
“Lagos will host President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR as from today,” the commissioner said, adding that “several activities are being lined up for the Yuletide when an influx of visitors is expected.”
He also disclosed that political activities were picking up in the state following the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission that campaigns could begin.
Those present at the meeting included the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai; Commander, 9 Brigade, Ikeja, Brig. Gen. A.O. Owolabi; Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu; Commander, 651 Base Services Group, Ikeja, Air Commodore M.A. Imam; and the Executive Secretary, Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Ayodele Ogunsan.
Also in attendance were the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Tayo Ayinde; Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Hundeyin; and the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Lawal Pedro.
The meeting comes as Lagos prepares for increased movement and activities linked to the festive season, alongside political, religious and cultural events across the state.
