A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Arinze Nwogba at the Kuje Correctional Centre over alleged impersonation of the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Segun Aina.

Justice Salim Ibrahim made the order on Friday, October 2, 2026, after Nwogba was arraigned on six counts brought against him by the Inspector-General of Police.

The judge ordered that Nwogba remain in custody pending a ruling on his bail application, which was filed by his lawyer, Christian Ejike.

Justice Ibrahim fixed October 7 at noon to rule on the bail application and adjourned the case until October 19 for the commencement of trial.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Inspector-General of Police, in a charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/612/2026, listed Nwogba as the sole defendant.

The charge, dated September 18 and filed on September 21 by Samuel Mallum, contained six counts against the defendant.

In one of the counts, Nwogba, who resides in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, was accused of impersonating Prof. Aina sometime in 2026, alongside other persons who are currently at large.

He was also accused of using his photograph on a WhatsApp profile and Truecaller account linked to telephone number 08139433155, allegedly with the intention of obtaining financial advantage.

The alleged offence was said to contravene Section 22(3)(a)(b) and (4) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc) Act, 2015, as amended in 2024.

When the case was called, the police prosecutor, Nonso Eleodimuo, told the court that the matter was scheduled for Nwogba’s arraignment.

After the charges were read to him, Nwogba pleaded not guilty to all six counts.

The prosecution subsequently requested a date for trial, while the defence did not oppose the application.

However, Ejike informed the court that he had filed a bail application on September 23 and that the prosecution had been served and had responded.

Eleodimuo confirmed receipt of the bail application and told the court that the prosecution had filed and served a counter-affidavit dated October 2.

After the defence counsel moved the bail application and urged the court to grant Nwogba bail on liberal terms, the prosecution opposed the request and asked the court to dismiss it.

Justice Ibrahim, after listening to arguments from both sides, adjourned the matter until October 7 for ruling on the bail application and October 19 for trial.
