Speaking at the event in Abuja on Wednesday, Soludo said the presence of governors and political stakeholders from different party affiliations reflected a broad alignment around the President.
The governor’s remarks were highlighted in a report by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA), which focused on his views on political cooperation, economic reforms and the role of leadership in national development.
Soludo, who belongs to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said his party’s support for Tinubu was informed by shared interests in national unity, security and economic prosperity.
He pointed to the participation of 31 APC governors alongside himself and Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, who is associated with the Accord Party, as an indication of the breadth of political representation at the gathering.
However, the participation of political figures from different parties does not necessarily amount to a formal endorsement of the President by every governor or their respective electorate.
Soludo, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, also used his address to examine the economic principles behind the Tinubu administration’s policies, describing its approach as “pragmatic progressivism”.
Drawing on his experience as an economist, he argued that the administration had opted to confront longstanding structural weaknesses in the economy rather than defer difficult policy decisions.
According to the governor, Tinubu inherited an economy under considerable pressure and introduced reforms intended to stabilise the country’s finances and establish conditions for sustainable growth.
Soludo also highlighted the President’s understanding of public finance as a factor shaping the direction of the reforms, arguing that the policies should be considered against the backdrop of Nigeria’s longstanding economic difficulties.
The administration’s economic programme has, however, attracted differing assessments. While supporters point to policy changes and macroeconomic adjustments as necessary steps towards recovery, critics have raised concerns about the cost of the reforms and the extent to which ordinary Nigerians have benefited from them.
Soludo maintained that tackling entrenched economic problems was necessary to create a foundation for future prosperity, placing emphasis on the need to address structural challenges rather than postpone difficult decisions.
His appearance at the APC campaign council inauguration also highlighted the relationship between political party affiliation and cooperation on national issues, given his continued membership of APGA.
The FORCEPA Media and Publicity Team noted that Soludo’s contribution brought economic policy and institutional performance into the discussion surrounding the 2027 presidential election.
The forum, which brings together chief executives of federal parastatals, also underscored the role of public institutions in implementing government policies, documenting development initiatives and providing Nigerians with reliable information on public-sector performance.
