President Bola Tinubu has blamed his political opponents for hunger and poverty in Nigeria, insisting that his administration is working to tackle the economic challenges facing the country.

The President made the remarks on Saturday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off rally at Ranchers Bees Stadium, also known as Kaduna Township Stadium, in Kaduna State, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Addressing party supporters, Tinubu challenged his opponents’ criticism of hunger and poverty, arguing that they were responsible for creating the problems his administration was now seeking to resolve.

“I have an argument. I hear my opponent talking about hunger, poverty. Who created it? They did! They created the hunger, they created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” he said.

Tinubu also defended his administration’s record on salary payments and commended state governors for their performance.

He expressed gratitude to the people of Kaduna State for supporting him in the previous presidential election, noting that their votes contributed to his victory.

The President subsequently appealed to Nigerians to renew his mandate in 2027, saying he wanted to sustain his commitments to prosperity, continuity, progress and development.

Addressing children at the rally, Tinubu also spoke about his administration’s commitment to the future of the country. However, the available transcript ended before he completed the statement.

The gathering at Ranchers Bees Stadium marked the formal launch of the APC’s presidential campaign for the 2027 general elections, with party leaders and supporters assembling in Kaduna as the party began mobilising support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
