Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has blamed his side’s poor second-half performance for their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Red Devils made a promising start to the encounter at Stamford Bridge and thought they had taken the lead through Matheus Cunha, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

However, Chelsea improved after the break and secured victory with goals from Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Carrick admitted that Manchester United failed to maintain their first-half performance.

“We didn’t get going second half. We should’ve been up in the first half,” he said.

“Everything was as positive as we could’ve hoped for. We looked really dangerous.

“Found a way of unravelling in the second half. Bad goal to concede and then the penalty, we’re right up against it. The game turned on its head.”

The defeat means Manchester United have now gone seven consecutive Premier League matches without a victory, increasing the pressure on Carrick and his team.
