TV host Morayo Brown has cautioned parents against sending emotionally immature teenagers abroad for secondary education, following reports that a 15-year-old Ghanaian boy was killed in the United States after allegedly being bullied.

Brown gave the warning while reacting to the reported incident, drawing from her own experience of bullying when she attended high school in the US at the age of 15.

She recalled being targeted by fellow students because of her African background, saying they put dirty items in her locker and pushed her during morning sports activities.

According to the TV host, she did not report the incidents because she was new to the school and wanted to fit in. She added that some students repeatedly made her feel unwelcome and questioned her sense of belonging.

Brown also recalled that the bullying intensified as she prepared to attend her school prom.

Reflecting on her experience, she advised parents to ensure their children are emotionally mature and adequately prepared before sending them abroad for secondary education.

“University abroad is fine, but high school can be treacherous,” she said.

She urged parents to maintain regular communication with their children, ask about their experiences and provide the necessary emotional support as they adjust to living and studying in a foreign country.
