Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje has named the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun as the chancellor of the state-owned Saadatu Abubakar Rimi University of Education, Kumbusu, Kano.
The appointment took effect on 15th March.
Delivering the letter to the monarch at his Alarere, Ibadan palace on Thursday, the Seriki Yoruba of Kano, Muritala Otiseese said the appointment was a reward of Oba Balogun’s good relationship with the people of Kano, as symbolised by his friendship with a former governor of the state, the now Late Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, and politicians of his generation.
Otiseese, who had the Kano State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Garba Mohammed, and another commissioner on his delegation, said under Ganduje, non-indigenes enjoyed peaceful coexistence with their host, adding that the governor extended privileges to non-indigenes.
The monarch, who spoke through High Chief Lateef Adebimpe, accepted the appointment and thanked the governor for the kind gesture, which he said would further cement the relationship between the two commercial cities.
At the letter presentation ceremony were members of the Olubadan-In-Council, senior chiefs, baales, and Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes leaders.
