In continuation of its long-term drive to promote fitness and healthy living among Nigerians, Power Oil, the preferred healthy vegetable cooking oil in Nigeria, recently extended its campaign tagged “Healthy Nation” to the Lagos State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp, Ipaja where various fun activities were organized to engage Corp members and officials.
The Healthy Nation is a campaign that throws a beam light on cardiovascular related diseases about possible causes and ways to prevent them through intentional lifestyle choices and adjustment. It sensitizes Nigerians on the importance of healthy diet and choosing fitness activity against sedentary lifestyle which is fast becoming the norm, especially amongst the youth.
Part of the activities were obstacle course games, brand knowledge and most importantly cooking contest among all platoons. All these are in line with the promotion of fitness and healthy choice of diet which the brand outwardly stands for. Power oil also seized the opportunity to sensitize corp members about the menace associated to indiscriminate purchase/consumption of unbranded oil and its possible long-term effect on human health.
The event, which started in the early evening of Saturday, 20th May, was well attended by officials of Lagos State NYSC, headed by Mrs. Ehinwenma Itohan (Assistant Camp Director), representing the Camp Coordinator, Mrs Ezinne Uguru- (Head of Socials/ Chief Inspector- NYSC), also present from brand side was Miss Winifred Emmanuel a.k.a Chef Winnie/ Zeelicious, Power Oil Brand Ambassador and renown chef and food blogger in Nigeria who presided over the panel to judge the cooking contest.
Platoons contested against one another to win the obstacle course game for the first phase of the activity followed by the cooking competition. Contestants were all tasked to cook their unique signature dish, Pasta and Chicken using the Proudly Nigerian vegetable cooking Oil brand.
Platoon 5 came out tops, platoon 9 was the 1st runner up and platoon 2, 2nd runner up. They were rewarded with cash prizes.
Present at the event was Head of Events-Power Oil, Mrs. Ijeoma Obi, who reiterated that a sizeable percentage of Nigerian adult aged 18 and above are either overweight or consuming unhealthy diets.
“We are delighted to be here again sharing the gospel of a Healthy Nation campaign to the Nigerian youth, as we reckon it’s important for them to note that the most important behavioral risk factors of heart disease, stroke are unhealthy diet and physical inactivity”.
“While the plan is to reach out to as many Nigerians as possible through our Heart Healthy Nation campaign, it is believed that winning the youth to our corner will help a great deal to get to cover a larger part of the population.”
The major highlight of the evening was when the guest artiste, Skales mounted the stage to perform his hit songs which quickly threw the Corp members into an enthusiastic mood, singing along and dancing to all songs performed.
