Former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on the presidential election petition court’s verdict.

On Wednesday, the Presidential Election Petition Court dismissed the three petitions brought against the election of President Tinubu. All the five justices on the panel – Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani (chairman), Justice Stephen Adah, Justice Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf, Justice Moses Ugo and Justice Abba Mohammed – agreed that the petitions lacked merit.

The petitions were filed by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Allied Peoples Movement.

In a statement on Saturday, the immediate past Vice President said the ruling is a ”great victory for Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and the rule of law”.

Osinbajo said Nigeria’s democracy has been further strengthened by the faithful adherence of all parties to the electoral process and their reliance on the courts in the event of dispute.

The statement read: “Congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, and our great party the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the judicial affirmation of the victory at the Presidential election of 25th February 2023.

“This ruling is a great victory for Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and its rule of law. The practice of democracy in our nation has been further strengthened by the fact that all parties faithfully followed the electoral process according to the law and relied on our courts in the event of dispute.

“Our Nation now needs all of us, to work together to address our challenges and to deliver the realization of the incredible potentials of our nation”.

As sitting Vice President, Osinbajo contested for the presidential ticket of the APC but finished a distant third behind Tinubu and former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi.
