The Nigerian Red Cross (NRC) has warned that the proliferation of cult groups in primary and secondary schools in the country is a ticking time bomb.

A member of the NRC’s National Governing Board, Sir Eddy Ogidi–Gbegbaje gave the warning when the members of the Oshimili South Division of Delta State honoured him with the presentation of a trophy won by the Ogidi-Gbegbaje House.

He warned that if the trend is not checked, it will become a serious social problem.

The Ogidi-Gbegbaje House has for three consecutive times emerged the overall best in the First Aid and Leadership Training programme.

Ogidi–Gbegbaje, also the Permanent Secretary in the Delta State’s Directorate of Government House and Protocol, urged youths and teenagers to take advantage of the programmes offered by the NRC to make significant contributions to building up a peaceful society where opportunities could abound for their development.

He urged Nigerian youths and teenagers to be deeply involved in humanitarian and voluntary services.

“I’m always pleased and happy when I see the young ones making useful contributions to nation building and they should be encouraged”, Ogidi-Gbegbaje stated.

Earlier, the South-South National Disaster Response Leader and Coordinator of the Red Cross, Asaba, Paul Orukamaya, said Ogidi-Gbegbaje had contributed greatly to the success of the body.

He commended Ogidi-Gbegbaje for his public–spirited disposition and urged him to continue in the same spirit.
