A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), FOMAF Project 70 has offered scholarship to 18 indigent students in Lagos State.
The scholarship is an initiative of InterGuide Academy. Certificates were given to the students at a ceremony in Lagos yesterday.
The coordinator, Judith Rhodes-Vivour said beneficiaries were from different areas in the state.
Eight were undergraduates, eight were in Junior Secondary School (JSS) and two were in Senior Secondary School (SSS).
The founder, Gbenga Olowo recalled his humble beginning, but said he was not daunted; rather, the situation emboldened him to be focused.
He urged beneficiaries to be focused and show dedication to their studies.
Olowo said the scholarship would help indigent children attain their goals, admonishing them to always put God first in all they do.
He added: “The scholarship programme has been on since I turned 70 last year and this is the second award. Last year, 25 scholarships were awarded. This year we are giving out 18.
“Everybody needs a destiny helper. Because the way I came into life, jumping from one house to the other, people helping my parents to nurture me makes me who I am today”.
Olowo said the awardees went through tough selection, stressing that 80 students applied.
He warned that any student who failed to keep an excellent academic record would be dropped.
Mrs Biso Olowo, the co-founder, had urged beneficiaries not to be carried away by the good things of life and to take their education as a priority.
