The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has engaged a film and distribution firm to assist in boosting its distance learning programme in the country.

Specifically, the Distance Learning Centre of the university engaged Dorayi Film and Distributing Company to promote the academic programmes run by the Centre through film production and television series.

This followed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) jointly signed by the Centre and the firm during a brief ceremony held in Zaria.

According to the MoU, both parties agreed to come together to deepen the mutual media cooperation in the area of film production, film starring, and sponsorship.

A statement by the Director of Public Affairs, ABU, Awwalu Umar, yesterday, said: “Under the MoU, the Distance Learning Centre, having established itself as a leading institution in modern open distance and e-learning deliveries, shall sponsor the production of a movie titled ‘MISALI’, retain the television right of the production, and own the intellectual property right”.

Umar said that on its own part, the film and distributing company, a Kano-based television production firm, shall be responsible for script writing, casting, production, editing, completion, marketing, and all other responsibilities in producing the television series.

Director of the Centre, Prof. M.I. Sule, who signed the MoU on behalf of the Centre, stressed that under the agreement, the Centre would be “well protected and promoted”.

Also, the Deputy Director of Administration, Dr Salim Magashi, who gave an overview of the MoU, described the production as all-encompassing and that the project would begin in earnest.

Meanwhile, Nazir Adam Salihi signed the MoU on behalf of the firm, with Aminu Shehu, a member of staff, in attendance.
