The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen has commended the Nigerian armed forces for their gallantry, patriotism, and services to the nation saying they remain one of the best in the world.

Abbas who represents Zaria Federal Constituency, Kaduna State said this in a special statement issued on Monday to commemorate this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day- a day set aside to mourn and celebrate Nigeria’s fallen heroes.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Speaker, Musa Krishi, Abbas noted that the nation would not have been able to experience prosperity if the country was not safe and secure for businesses and other economic activities to thrive. This, he said, underscores the critical role of the armed forces in the general well-being of the nation.

“Without our gallant forces, this country will not be safe and secure for us to live and do our businesses. This shows how important they are to us as a people,” he said.

While admitting that insecurity remains a serious concern, the Speaker credited the armed forces for doing their best to make the country safer for all. He, however, urged the military, security and intelligence agencies to do more in securing lives and property, which he noted, is the primary responsibility of the government.

“While we commend them for their work, we also believe they can do more. Nigeria must be safe for everyone,” he added.

The Speaker also mourned security agents who died in the line of duty, describing their deaths as heroic sacrifices made to make Nigeria a safer nation for all and sundry.

Abbas further commended President Bola Tinubu for “Significantly boosting the morale of servicemen by rejigging the security architecture, compensating the families of fallen heroes, as well as clearing backlogs of unpaid salaries and allowances to serve and retired servicemen”.
