Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has called on contractors handling projects at the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun, Delta State to hasten the work, pointing out that the institution would boost technical education across the state and nation.

After a project inspection on Saturday, Senator Omo-Agege, who is also the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the state, pointed out that the polytechnic was conceived with the intent of making it the bastion of technical and academic excellence.

According to him, academic work would commence from some buildings in the community pending completion of work at the institution.

He listed some of the temporary sites to include Orhoera Secondary Secondary, Ugono-Orogun; JAMB Centre, Orhoera; and Information Communication Technology Centre, Emonu-Orogun.

“Since the state government is not willing to give us a temporary site, we are trying to see some of the projects that I brought here; to see if we can also make them available to the polytechnic pending the completion of the permanent site.

“So, we are looking for some of the buildings we have within the community that could serve as a temporary site.

“We have Orhoera Secondary Secondary, Ugono-Orogun; JAMB Centre, town hall. Be that as it may, all things are going well”, he said.

Projects visited at the institution included the Gateway, lecture theatres, administration blocks, faculty buildings and the library.

The bill establishing the Polytechnic, which was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari last April, was sponsored by Senator Omo-Agege.

The lawmaker was accompanied on the visit by the Chairman, APC Delta Central Senatorial District, Chief Paulinus Akpeki.
