Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has lauded Presided Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the North West Development Commission Bill into law.
Barau, who is also the first deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, made the commendation during a news conference at the National Assembly, Abuja yesterday.
He urged Nigerians to support and pray for the President in his drive to develop the country.
The lawmaker also enjoined Nigerians to avoid those working to distract the President.
Barau said: “This is just to tell you that the President (Bola Ahmed Tinubu) today(yesterday), signed the North West Development Commission Bill into law.
“I decided that I need to talk to you to show my appreciation and the appreciation of the entire people of the North West geo-political zone to the President.
“I am proud that the President today signed the Northwest Development Commission Bill. He signed it into law and so he has brought to life, the Northwest Development Commission, which is a body that is going to assist in the development of the Northwest.
“In fact, today (yesterday) is one of the happiest days of my life because I sponsored the bill and we’ve been praying that this commission should be established so as to help in developing the Northwest geopolitical zone.
“We are all aware of the importance of the zone to this country because it is a zone that is at the forefront in the production of food for the teaming population of this country.
“And of recent, the zone has been ravaged by the activities of the Boko Haram insurgents, kidnappers, and bandits that have led to the destruction of the infrastructure of the zone, the educational infrastructure, road infrastructure and of course, health delivery system infrastructure.
“Now with the start of this commission, we have a means of building this region and enhancing the livelihoods of the people of the region.
“It’s a good thing that the President has done for us. He has shown that he loves the people of the zone, and indeed the entire people of this country, because whatever is done for any region is done for the entire people of Nigeria, because we are all connected as Nigerians.
“It shows that the President has a lot in stock for the development of this country. It shows that he is a man who has the foresight and the political will, to build this country.
“This is his first year and he has started by rolling out good things that will help in the development of this country. I want to call on Nigerians to be patient with Mr. President.
“He is a man who has some pedigree of development as a leader. We’ve seen what he has done in Lagos and we are now beginning to see what he is doing for this country”.
