Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has warned staff of the state university (UNIOSUN) to steer clear of crisis in a bid to not hinder the development of the school.

At the university’s 14th convocation ceremony at Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium, Osogbo, he said his administration is fully in support of the council and management’s decision on staff welfare.

He also described the university’s adoption of the “no-strike no-Aluta” policy as a catalyst for its rapid development within a short time, saying the policy does not connote oppression but is a sign of quality leadership.

His words, “I have noted that UNIOSUN has established a “no-strike” “no aluta” tradition, and it is these that keep the University up when other schools are down. This culture of no strike and no aluta does not in any way presuppose oppression or dictatorship. Rather, it is an indication of good leadership at all levels of the University governance.

“I wish to also reiterate that the State Government restates its full confidence in the Governing Council and Management of this University. As such, the Government is in full support of Council’s decisions on all staff welfare matters.

“I wish to state, however, that staff members of the University should not take this liberty for granted, and should not, under any guise, political or ideological, seek to foment trouble over any welfare matter that has been closed by the Governing Council of the University. The Council takes decision within the provisions of law”.

Earlier in his address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Clement Adebooye said the realities in the country demand that leaders invest more in education

“At a time like this when there is an increase in societal, national and global challenges, the wisest decision any Government and nation can take is to invest more in quality education. To almost all the problems of Nigeria today, good education and advances in science and technology have very great roles to play.

“Osun State has been specially blessed with this highly promising University: a University that has defied all challenges, including an expensive multi-campus architecture against dwindling economic resources. The University has proved itself to be highly and potentially feasible, just as it has shown exceptional focus and commitment to the ideals of a globally competitive 21st Century university in excellence and relevance”, he said.
