Nigeria’s football living legend, Kanu Nwankwo has expressed optimism in the ability of Malam Shehu Dikko to turn the fortunes of the country’s sports around as the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC).

Last week, President Bola Tinubu scrapped the Federal Ministry of Sports Development and appointed Dikko as NSC Chairman.

Considered one of Africa’s greatest players of all time, and a member of the Arsenal FC ‘Invincibles’, Nwankwo also commended President Tinubu for searching out Dikko for the assignment, saying the appointment came at a time Nigerians were eager to witness a desired change in the nation’s sporting architecture.

He said he is already impressed by Dikko’s pledge to focus on establishing a robust framework for the transformation of sports in the country, and said that he is confident that the new helmsman’s wealth of experience in various capacities in the sports circle would enable his success.

Nwankwo’s congratulatory message to Dikko read: “Dear Malam,

“I sincerely congratulate you on your recent appointment as the Chairman National Sports Commission (NSC).

“This appointment came at a time Nigerians were eager to witness a desired change in our sporting architecture.

“Malam, I’m impressed by your pledge to establish a robust framework for the transformation of sports in Nigeria.

“Your wealth of experience at various capacities in the sporting circle is indeed commendable and I am sure you will succeed.

“I appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, for this laudable appointment.

“Congratulations once again”.
