The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun on the latest rating of the state as third on the State of States Performance on “Index A” by a leading socioeconomic and civic organisation, BudgIT.

Only Rivers State, which tops the list with 0.82, and Lagos (0.84) ranked higher than Ogun (1.48) among the 36 states of the federation.

The organization said on its website: “States that rank higher on Index A have comparatively limited dependence on federally distributed revenue for their operations and thus have greater viability if they were to theoretically exist as an independent entity”.

In a statement in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Monday, the Publicity Secretary of Ogun State APC, Mr. Tunde Oladunjoye commented that the latest report did not come to the party as a surprise.

“To us as a party, it is no surprise because since coming to the helms of affairs of our dear state, Prince Dapo Abiodun has engendered creativity in revenue generation, administrative capacity, creation of structures and agencies that ease the bottlenecks in business operations and promotion of impactful investment drives devoid of noise.

“But for the leadership and creativity of Governor Abiodun, in the areas of revenue generation and financial engineering, Ogun State would not have been able to meet its obligations to workers in particular and the citizens in general, as far as infrastructural development are concerned.

“In fact, I can say that, Ogun State is not third but first: if you compare and contrast the revenue and status of Lagos and Rivers states in terms of federal government presence and location of industries”, the statement added.

A recent report by the National Bureau of Statistics stated that Ogun State is one of the least dependent on revenue from federation account.
