Businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has expressed his support for former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha’s call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

In a post on Instagram on Tuesday, Cubana Chief Priest shared a video of Okorocha’s tribute to the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, where the former governor urged the Nigerian government to free Kanu as the “best way” to honour Ubah.

Cubana Chief Priest stated that Kanu’s release would promote peace and unity in the Southeastern region of Nigeria.

Tagging Senate President Godswill Akpabio in his post, he wrote, “Those pleas from Owelle Ndi Igbo are all we ask for our dear in-law. Let Ohamadike Ndi Igbo, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, come back home soon.”

He added that Kanu’s detention had negatively affected the Igbo people, particularly in terms of access to their hometowns and the instability in the Southeast.

“It’s been almost five years now; we still cannot access our hometown. Only his release can restore peace to our region,” he wrote. “We have lost many lives and properties. We need to rebuild the South-East ASAP. Make una help us.”

It was reported that during his tribute to Ubah, Okorocha urged the government to release Kanu and appealed to Akpabio to convey the message on behalf of the Igbos.

Since Kanu’s arrest and detention in June 2021, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and his supporters have repeatedly called for his release.
