As part of efforts at revamping the education sector, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo is transforming 22 secondary schools into smart schools, setting a new standard of contemporary schools. He promised to have many more in the new year
The schools will be spread across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas, and through the state Universal Basic Education Board programme with the approval of the state Executive Council.
In a statement, the state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor said that the Soludo administration would continue to strengthen the state’s free education policy and enhance existing programmes toward providing quality education to students.
He said that the state has extended its free education policy up to Senior Secondary School Year 3 and recruited an additional 3,115 teachers, increasing the number to 8,115. It has also equipped 60 secondary school laboratories with the required Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics equipment. It has also increased the operational budgets for primary and secondary schools to ensure they can deliver the quality education promised, among other initiatives.
“By 2025, we plan to make significant investments in education so that our students and teachers will smile like never before. We will also continue to support mission schools, especially the “returned mission schools. Our subsidies to mission schools help to reduce the cost of primary and secondary education to parents in Anambra State”., the governor said.
The Soludo administration has also shown a strong commitment to enhancing digital skills among young people of the state by empowering millions of young minds and encouraging tech-innovative communities. This was demonstrated at the launch of the One Million Digital Tribe at the grand ceremony of the recent Anambra Innovation Week 2024, which is intended to open opportunities for the young citizens of the state to succeed in their professional and business enterprises.
The initiative underscores the governor’s recognition that human capital is the state’s most valuable asset, and Soludo is ardent about leveraging this strength to accelerate its economic growth.
