Abducted chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and an ally of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Benedict Akika who was kidnapped week ago, has regained his freedom.

Akika was whisked away by gunmen at his Olorunda residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State’s capital.

Sources said the politician was released Wednesday night.

It remains unclear whether a ransom was paid to secure his release at the time of this report.

Akika was said to have been taken to a medical facility for examination.
Only few days ago, his loyalists offered interdenominational prayers to ask God for his release.

Bene, as Akika is fondly called, reportedly used his closeness to the governor to facilitate developmental projects, particularly, the Akobo-Olorunda axis of Lagelu local government, an action that made traditional rulers to install him as Agbaakin of Olorunda.
